Reddit RSS Feeds End November 13, 2026: What Breaks and What Replaces Them
Reddit stops supporting RSS feeds on November 13, 2026. What breaks, what Reddit offers moderators instead, the 2027 API dates, and how to replace a feed.

Reddit stops supporting RSS feeds on November 13, 2026. Every Reddit .rss URL a feed reader, an automation recipe, a terminal client or an AI pipeline polls is on that clock. Moderators get Devvit apps such as Discord Relay as a replacement. Everyone else gets Reddit's own answer: there is no replacement.
TL;DR: Reddit's 30 September 2026 r/modnews post ends RSS support on 13 November 2026, points mods to Discord Relay, and says non-mod feeds get no replacement. Register apps before 12 January 2027; public API access closes in March 2027. Rebuild a feed as an API call or a webhook monitor.
TL;DR
Reddit will stop supporting RSS feeds on November 13, 2026, according to its 30 September 2026 admin post on r/modnews, which cites large-scale scraping and automated abuse. Moderators are pointed to Devvit apps such as Discord Relay. For feeds outside a community you moderate, Reddit says plainly there is no replacement. The same post asks app and bot owners to register on the Developer Platform before 12 January 2027, and Reddit's r/redditdev timeline says remaining public API access closes in March 2027. Old Reddit will also be limited to logged-in users who used it in the last six months, with logged-in moderators exempt. A feed you rely on can be rebuilt as an API call to a subreddit's newest posts, a search, or a monitor that pushes matches to a webhook, Slack or Discord.
This is an independent explainer from redditapis.com, a third-party API that is not affiliated with Reddit, Inc. The mechanics of the RSS path, its 25-item ceiling and its field gaps are already in our Reddit RSS feed vs API comparison, and the August plan is in the Developer Platform migration guide. This post covers the deadline: what stops, what Reddit offers, and how to keep a feed alive after 13 November.
When do Reddit RSS feeds stop working?
Reddit RSS feeds stop on November 13, 2026. Reddit announced the date in an admin post on r/modnews on 30 September 2026, six weeks ahead, and gave no grace period or list of surviving feed types. Any workflow that polls a Reddit .rss URL should be moved before that date.
The sentence that matters, from the r/modnews announcement:
Because RSS is now a common surface for large-scale scraping and automated abuse, we'll stop supporting RSS feeds on November 13, 2026 while preserving moderation workflows that depend on it through supported alternatives.
Three details in that line are worth reading carefully:
- "Stop supporting" is the verb. Reddit does not promise a hard cutoff at midnight, but it also does not promise that anything keeps working after the date.
- No feed type is excluded. Subreddit, user, search, comment and multireddit feeds all share the same .rss path, and none is carved out.
- Moderation workflows are the only ones Reddit commits to preserving, and only through "supported alternatives", not through RSS itself.
The post was not received warmly. When we read the announcement through our API on 14 October 2026, Reddit reported 797 comments on it and an upvote ratio of 0.27, so roughly three in four votes on it were downvotes.
Why is Reddit ending RSS support?
Reddit's stated reason is abuse: RSS has become a common surface for large-scale scraping and automated traffic, and it is unauthenticated, so Reddit cannot tell a hobbyist's feed reader from a crawler. Ending RSS closes one of the last anonymous read paths after Reddit required logins for Old Reddit earlier in 2026.
The RSS change is one step in a sequence Reddit laid out across 2026:
- Old Reddit login. Earlier in 2026 Reddit required people to log in to use Old Reddit, which the r/modnews post calls "its largest source of abusive scraping and automated traffic: unauthenticated access."
- The August plan. On 5 August 2026 Reddit said third-party Data API apps would move to the Developer Platform. Our migration guide covers that post.
- The September dates. On 30 September 2026 Reddit published the RSS date, the Old Reddit six-month rule and the API timeline together.
TechCrunch covered the change on 30 September 2026, the day of the announcement, framing it around AI bots. Reddit's own wording is narrower: scraping and automated abuse.

Which Reddit RSS feeds stop on November 13?
All of them, as far as the notice says. Reddit draws no line between subreddit feeds, user feeds, search feeds, comment feeds or the private feeds tied to your account, so a workflow built on any Reddit .rss URL should be treated as ending on 13 November 2026.
What that covers in practice:
- Feed readers. Any Reddit subscription in a desktop, web or mobile reader. A post on the Inoreader community subreddit asked what the change means for that reader on 1 October 2026.
- Automation recipes. IFTTT, Zapier, n8n and similar flows that start from a Reddit feed. An r/redditdev thread on 1 October 2026 asked exactly this about IFTTT.
- Terminal and editor clients. Emacs packages and other text clients that read Reddit through its feeds.
- Mod alert pipelines. Modqueue and new-post alerts piped into Discord, Slack or email through a feed.
- AI and RAG pipelines. Agents and ingestion jobs that poll a subreddit's .rss feed because it needed no key.
- Private feeds. The token-signed feeds listed in account Preferences, which a thread in the RSS community subreddit on 3 October 2026 flagged as going too.
The Emacs community put it most bluntly. The top post in the Emacs subreddit on 8 October 2026, titled "Accessing Reddit from Emacs will be impossible after November 13th", argued RSS was "the last hatch through which we could access Reddit from Emacs."
Reddit's own timeline post on r/redditdev is the one to bookmark for the API side:
Moving Data API Apps to the Developer Platform: migration dates and next steps
TL;DR: In[ our last update](https://www.reddit.com/r/redditdev/comments/1vgbm9c/our_plans_for_the_future_of_reddits_public_data/), we said we’d come back with migration dates and next steps. We know migrating takes time…
What does Reddit offer instead of RSS?
For moderators, Devvit apps. Reddit recommends Discord Relay for common mod alerts and links a help center guide for migrating RSS-based workflows. For anyone else, Reddit's answer is direct: "If you use RSS for feeds outside of a community you moderate, there is no replacement."
That split decides your options:
- You moderate the community. Install Discord Relay or another Devvit app, map the alerts your RSS pipeline produced, and remove the feed before 13 November. Reddit's Discord Relay setup guide covers the steps.
- You built an app or bot. Register it at the app registration page and follow the Data API/PRAW to Devvit migration guide.
- You just read feeds. Reddit offers nothing. Your choices are a third-party data API, a Devvit app you build and install yourself where allowed, or reading Reddit in the browser.
For a mod team, the Discord Relay migration is short:
Three ways off RSS
What each Reddit RSS replacement covers, on the questions that decide it

|---|---|---|---|
| Works outside your own community | Yes, any public subreddit | No, mod teams only | Installed per community |
| Output | JSON over HTTP | Discord messages | Runs inside Reddit |

What are the other Reddit deadlines around the RSS shutdown?
Two other changes ship around the same date. App and bot owners must register on the Developer Platform before 12 January 2027, and remaining public API access closes in March 2027. Old Reddit will be limited to logged-in users who used it in the last six months, with logged-in moderators exempt.
Be precise about the API part, because it is widely misreported. Reddit is not switching its API off in November. Per the r/redditdev timeline of 30 September 2026, it is moving public Data API apps to the Developer Platform in phases:
Every Reddit date around the RSS shutdown, from Reddit's own posts
| Date | What happens | Who it hits | Source |
|---|---|---|---|
| 31 Oct 2026 | New requests for public API access no longer accepted | Developers without access | published |
| 10 Nov 2026 | Migration progress update and deadline reminder | Registered apps | published |
| 13 Nov 2026 | Reddit stops supporting RSS feeds | Every RSS reader and recipe | published |
| 30 Nov 2026 | Registration closes for the migration bounty program | App owners seeking funding | published |
| 12 Jan 2027 | API access starts to close for unregistered apps | Apps and bots not registered | published |
| 23 Feb 2027 | Another migration progress update | Registered apps | published |
| Mar 2027 | Public access closes for all remaining apps and users | Every remaining Data API client | published |
The supporting numbers from the same two posts:
- 14,000+ apps and bots had registered by 30 September 2026, per both admin posts.
- 100+ submissions had come in through the form for community tools with no known maintainer.
- $1M is the size of the App Migration Program, which pays $1,000 to eligible apps that complete a migration, with registration for the bounty closing on 30 November 2026.
- Six months is the Old Reddit usage window. Logged-in mods keep access with no usage requirement.
The Old Reddit rule matters for anyone who switched from RSS to reading old.reddit.com pages. That path now needs a logged-in account with recent Old Reddit use, so it is not a durable replacement for a feed.
How did developers and readers react to the RSS shutdown?
Loudly, and mostly with one question: what do I use now. In the two weeks after the notice, Reddit posts with both RSS and Reddit in the title appeared across dozens of communities, from feed reader forums to national subreddits, and the biggest threads drew hundreds of comments each.
We measured it through our own API:
Between 30 September and 14 October 2026, 54 Reddit posts carried both RSS and Reddit in the title.

Reddit will also shut down the RSS feed on November 13th. Can we please leave this shithole?
Api first and now also rss. It’s only getting worse. Reddit recommends “Discord Relay”. Maybe we can use it to at least mirror the posts away from reddit?
And the reaction outside Reddit ran along the same lines, with Old Reddit folded in:

How do you replace a Reddit RSS feed with an API call?
Map each feed URL to the API listing that returns the same posts, then poll it and remember the last post id you saw. A subreddit's new feed becomes a newest-first posts listing, a search feed becomes a search call, and a user feed becomes that user's submitted posts. You get JSON with more fields than RSS carried.
The direct mapping on redditapis.com:
| RSS feed you used | API call that replaces it | What you gain |
|---|---|---|
| /r/SUB/new/.rss | GET /api/reddit/posts?subreddit=SUB&sort=new | Score, comment count, up to 100 per call |
| /r/SUB/top/.rss?t=week | GET /api/reddit/posts?subreddit=SUB&sort=top&t=week | Same window, JSON |
| /search.rss?q=TERM | GET /api/reddit/search?q=TERM&sort=new | Sort, time window, subreddit scope |
| /user/NAME/submitted/.rss | User submitted posts listing | Pagination past 25 items |
| /r/SUB/comments/.rss | Subreddit new-comment stream | Comment bodies and authors |
A subreddit's new feed, rebuilt as one call:
curl -sS "https://api.redditapis.com/api/reddit/posts?subreddit=selfhosted&sort=new&limit=25" \
-H "Authorization: Bearer $REDDITAPIS_KEY"
What replaces r/selfhosted/new/.rss after 13 November
endpoint
GET /api/reddit/posts
sort
new
per call
$0.002
Sample request shape. Field list from the endpoint's documented response; price from the redditapis.com pricing page, read 14 October 2026.
To keep the feed behaviour (new items only, nothing twice), wrap the call in a small loop:
- Call the newest-first listing for the subreddit or search.
- Drop every post id you have already seen. Store ids, not timestamps.
- Hand the new posts on to your reader bridge, Slack message or ingestion job.
- Save the newest id as the high-water mark.
- Wait your interval and repeat.
Pick the interval from how busy the subreddit is. A listing reaches back only so far, about 1,000 items in our listing cap measurement, so a very busy subreddit polled hourly can drop posts out of the window between calls. The pagination guide covers the cursor.
What does replacing a Reddit RSS feed cost?
A polled feed costs one read per poll. At the published $0.002 per read, read on 14 October 2026, one subreddit polled every 15 minutes is 2,880 reads in a 30-day month, about $5.76. Hourly is $1.44 a month. Every minute is $86.40, well past the point where a flat-priced push monitor costs less.
The arithmetic for one feed over a 30-day month:
- Every 60 minutes: 720 reads, $1.44.
- Every 15 minutes: 2,880 reads, $5.76.
- Every 5 minutes: 8,640 reads, $17.28.
- Every minute: 43,200 reads, $86.40.
Every new account starts with $0.50 in free credits and no card, which is 250 reads, enough to test a feed for a few days at a 15-minute interval. Credits do not expire. The pricing breakdown has the other tiers.
The cheapest Reddit API. Try it free.
Reads from $0.002 per call. $0.50 free credits. No credit card required.
Should you poll or use a webhook monitor?
Poll when you want a cheap, simple replacement for a reader feed and can tolerate your own interval. Use a monitor when you want alerts the way mod teams used RSS: a match is pushed to a webhook, Slack or Discord without a polling loop, at a flat monthly price with no per-match charge.
What the live pricing page listed on 14 October 2026:
- Free, no card: 1 keyword watched across all of Reddit, new posts, about every 60 seconds, delivered to a webhook, Slack or Discord, up to 10,000 alerts a day.
- Starter, $19 a month: 15 keyword monitors across up to 10 named subreddits, at about 60-second checks.
- Growth, $49 a month: 50 monitors, about 30-second checks, and comment monitoring.
Polling or push
Rebuilding a Reddit RSS feed as a poll against a hosted monitor
| Hosted monitor | Polling a listing | |
|---|---|---|
| Who runs the loop | The service | Your cron job |
| Billing | Flat plan, free tier for 1 keyword | $0.002 per read |
| Delivery | Webhook, Slack or Discord | Wherever your script writes |
| Freshness | About 60s free, 30s on Growth | Your poll interval |
| Backfill | Forward only from creation | Up to the listing window |
Monitors are forward looking: they start from the moment you create them and do not backfill, so use a search call for anything older. The monitoring webhook guide walks through the four calls, signature checks and retries, and the monitoring API page has the overview.
What should AI agents and RAG pipelines use instead of Reddit RSS?
A keyed data API. RSS was popular with agents because it needed no credentials, but it returned at most 25 items, no scores and no comment trees. Replace the feed with a listing or search call that returns structured JSON, and keep the license question in view.
The swap for an ingestion job:
- Replace the .rss URL with a newest-first listing or a scoped search.
- Store post ids so the job stays idempotent across runs.
- Fetch comment trees only for posts that pass your filter, because they cost one read each.
- Record what you cannot see, such as a truncated listing, so the agent says "partial" instead of "all".
- Check the terms for your use. Commercial use and AI training sit under separate rules covered in our RAG data source guide.
For agent tooling specifically, the Reddit API for AI agents guide covers tool design, and redditapis.com ships an MCP server that exposes the same listings as tools.
Reddit RSS vs Discord Relay vs a data API
They solve different jobs. RSS was a universal, keyless read path. Discord Relay is a moderator alert tool for communities you run. A data API is a keyed read path that works on any public subreddit and feeds code, not a reader. Pick by who you are and where the output has to land.
- RSS (until 13 November): any public feed, no key, 25 items, XML for readers.
- Discord Relay: mod teams only, community events into a Discord channel.
- A Devvit app: runs inside Reddit, installed per community, under Developer Platform rules.
- A data API: any public subreddit, JSON, search and comments, a key and a per-call price.
The capability detail, field by field, is in our RSS versus API comparison.
Who is hit hardest by the Reddit RSS shutdown?
People who read Reddit through tools Reddit did not build and who do not moderate anything. Mod teams get Discord Relay, registered apps get a migration path into 2027, but a reader with forty subreddit feeds in a feed reader has nothing from Reddit after 13 November.
Group by group, per Reddit's 30 September 2026 posts:
- Moderators: Discord Relay and other Devvit apps for the communities they run.
- App and bot owners: a registration and migration path, with access closing from 12 January 2027.
- Feed reader users: no replacement from Reddit.
- Automation users: no replacement; recipes that start from a feed must be rebuilt on an API.
- AI and RAG pipelines: no replacement; a keyed data API is the route left.
This Privacy Guides episode of 3 October 2026 covers the Old Reddit login, the RSS end and the API close together, from a reader's point of view:
What to do before November 13, 2026
Inventory every Reddit feed you depend on this week, then move each one to the replacement that fits it. Moderators install Discord Relay, app owners register before 12 January 2027, and everyone else rebuilds feeds as API calls or monitors and runs both side by side before the date.
The checklist:
- List every Reddit .rss URL in your readers, recipes, scripts and agents.
- Sort them into mod alerts, app or bot traffic, and plain reading.
- Mod alerts: set up Discord Relay and compare a week of output against the feed.
- Apps and bots: register before 12 January 2027, and before 30 November 2026 if you want the migration bounty.
- Reading and automation: rebuild each feed as a listing, search or monitor, and test it against the live feed while both still work.
- Remove the RSS dependency before 13 November so nothing fails silently.
When you are ready to test a replacement feed, the quickstart gets the first call running, signup issues a key with $0.50 in free credits, and the API documentation lists every endpoint.

Frequently asked questions.
Reddit says it will stop supporting RSS feeds on November 13, 2026. The date comes from the admin post 'Continuing our infrastructure updates' on r/modnews, published 30 September 2026. The post gives no grace period after that date and names no feed type that survives, so plan for every Reddit .rss URL you poll to stop returning items on or soon after 13 November. The API side of the change is tracked in our Developer Platform migration guide.
Not in one step. Reddit is moving public Data API apps and bots to its Developer Platform. Per the r/redditdev timeline of 30 September 2026, new requests for public API access stop on 31 October 2026, access starts to close on 12 January 2027 for apps that have not registered, and public access closes for all remaining apps and users in March 2027. Our Developer Platform migration guide tracks the port.
Reddit recommends Devvit apps, naming Discord Relay for common mod alerts, and links a help center guide for moving RSS-based workflows before 13 November. Discord Relay posts community events into a Discord channel, which covers the alert use case most mod teams built on RSS. It only covers communities you moderate; for anything else see the monitoring API.
Not from Reddit. The r/modnews post says: 'If you use RSS for feeds outside of a community you moderate, there is no replacement.' The options left are a Developer Platform app, a registered Data API app while that access lasts, or a third-party data API that returns the same posts as JSON. The RSS versus API comparison covers what changes when you switch.
Reddit's notice names no exception for feed readers or automation services, and those products read the same public .rss URLs everyone else does. A post on r/InoReader on 1 October 2026 asked what the change means for that reader, and r/ifttt users asked the same question the same day. Treat any Reddit feed inside a reader or a recipe as ending on 13 November unless the vendor confirms otherwise in writing, and see the RSS versus API comparison for what a rebuilt feed returns.
Call a listing of the subreddit's newest posts and remember the last post id you saw. On redditapis.com that is one read, GET /api/reddit/posts with subreddit and sort=new, at $0.002 a call on the pricing page. Polling one subreddit every 15 minutes is 2,880 reads in a 30-day month, about $5.76. A monitor that pushes matches to a webhook, Slack or Discord removes the polling loop entirely; the monitoring webhook guide shows the four calls.
Old Reddit already requires a login. In the next few months Reddit will limit it further to logged-in users who have used Old Reddit in the last six months, according to the same 30 September 2026 r/modnews post. Logged-in moderators keep access with no recent-usage requirement. Tools that read old.reddit.com pages instead of RSS are affected by that rule, not by the RSS date. The Reddit API limitations guide covers the other access rules.
Reddit's notice says it will stop supporting RSS feeds and draws no line between public feeds and the private, token-signed feeds listed in account Preferences. An r/rss thread on 3 October 2026 discussed exactly those private feeds being cut. Until Reddit says otherwise, plan for the private feeds to stop on the same date and rebuild them with the quickstart.
