Reddit RSS feeds that keep working after November 13

reddit-rss is a free, open-source server that answers the same feed URLs Reddit is switching off. Run it in one Docker command, change the host in your reader, and your subscriptions carry on.

How do I keep my Reddit RSS feeds after November 13, 2026?

Run reddit-rss, a free, MIT licensed server that answers the same feed URLs Reddit used to. Start it with one Docker command, then change the host in your reader from www.reddit.com to your own server. Subreddit, search, user and comment-thread feeds keep working in RSS 2.0, Atom 1.0 or JSON Feed 1.1, fetched through the RedditAPIs API on your own key.

What Reddit is changing

Reddit will stop supporting its .rss feeds on November 13, 2026. Moderators are pointed to a separate tool for mod alerts. For everyone else, Reddit's announcement says it plainly: “If you use RSS for feeds outside of a community you moderate, there is no replacement.”

That covers every subreddit, search and user feed sitting in a reader today. reddit-rss gives those URLs a new home on your own server, with the same paths, so the move is a find and replace on the host name.

It was not a popular change: the announcement thread had drawn 804 comments and a 28% upvote ratio, per our own read through the RedditAPIs API on October 20, 2026.

Running in three steps

Step 1

Get an API key

Sign up for free credit. Each feed refresh is one API call at $0.0015, and a cached feed costs nothing.

Step 2

Start the server

One docker run command, or git clone and npm start on Node 20. It listens on this machine only until you choose otherwise.

Step 3

Change the host in your reader

Replace https://www.reddit.com with http://localhost:8080 in any feed URL you already follow. Nothing else changes.

With Docker:

docker run -d -p 127.0.0.1:8080:8080 -e REDDITAPIS_API_KEY=your_key --name reddit-rss ghcr.io/redditapis/reddit-rss:1.0.0

Or with Node 20:

git clone https://github.com/redditapis/reddit-rss.git && cd reddit-rss && npm install && REDDITAPIS_API_KEY=your_key npm start

Every feed path you used, still there

The paths match Reddit's own, so an existing subscription only needs its host changed. Swap .rss for .atom or .json for the other formats.

FeedPath
Newest posts in a subreddit/r/selfhosted/.rss
Hot, top, rising, controversial, best/r/selfhosted/top/.rss?t=week
Newest comments across a subreddit/r/selfhosted/comments/.rss
Comments on one post/r/selfhosted/comments/<post_id>/.rss
Search inside a subreddit/r/selfhosted/search.rss?q=backup
Search all of Reddit/search.rss?q=homelab&sort=new
A user's posts/user/<name>/.rss
A user's comments/user/<name>/comments/.rss

Built to sit quietly behind your reader

Three formats, every feed

RSS 2.0, Atom 1.0 and JSON Feed 1.1, so Miniflux, FreshRSS, NetNewsWire, Thunderbird and any standard reader work unchanged.

Cached and polite

Each feed is cached for 5 minutes by default and answers If-None-Match with a 304, so a reader can poll as often as it likes.

A spend cap you set

A default cap of 2,000 API calls a day, which is at most $3 a day at today's read price. Lower it with one setting.

Open source, MIT

The whole server is a few hundred lines you can read before you run it. Fork it, change it, host it anywhere.

Frequently asked questions

Reddit announced it will stop supporting RSS feeds on November 13, 2026. Its announcement says: "If you use RSS for feeds outside of a community you moderate, there is no replacement." Moderators get a separate path for mod alerts; everyone else loses the .rss URLs.

The software is free and MIT licensed. Feeds are fetched through the RedditAPIs API on your own key, at $0.0015 per refresh. A feed served from cache makes no call. New accounts start with free credit.

Yes, once your instance is on a public URL. Hosted readers fetch feeds from their own servers, so they cannot reach localhost. Publish the port, set FEED_TOKEN so only you can read it, and set PUBLIC_URL for correct self links.

A missing subreddit answers 404, so your reader marks it as gone. A failed refresh serves the last good copy instead of an empty feed. An empty balance answers 502 with a link to top up, never a blank feed that looks like a quiet day.
